Position Overview

Provide general and purchasing support to ensure consistent service levels are maintained related to coin offerings. Help develop and maintain a supplier base, generate and maintain purchase order data and communicate with suppliers to manage incoming supply information to avoid backorders. To achieve this, the Assistant Buyer will work with the Procurement Manager, Inventory Analyst, Product Merchandizers, Product Specialists, Numismatists to achieve departmental goals, maintain day-to-day operations and driving continuous improvement.

Essential Functions, Duties & Accountabilities

Supply Chain Management activities:

  1. Source and select vendors for the purchase of coins/collateral at the most cost effective price, ensuring the meeting of quality standards and delivery requirements.
  2. Enter purchase orders, return items and work with A/P to ensure timely payment and/or credit to maintain vendor relationships.
  3. Monitor open purchase orders to ensure delivery dates are accurate.
  4. Assist Procurement with the review of historical sales data and current sales forecasts in order to accurately predict the inventory levels needed and set adequate purchasing goals.

Support Program Management on as as needed basis:

  1. Set up programs, including part numbers, bill of materials, cost and prices, in an ERP system.

Support Numismatists on an as needed basis:

  1. Assist Numismatists with want/wish list duties and product setup maintenance.

Additional Functions, Duties & Accountabilities

  1. Actively serve as a member of Procurement Team and support others as necessary.
  2. Maintain flexibility in work schedule to meet business needs.
  3. Actively and positively contribute to the overall success of through regular contributions to the general management of the company. Participate and provide leadership in inter-departmental meetings, projects and informal activities. Support the company and other departments wherever and whenever your skills and experience would be beneficial.
  4. Uphold and promote AMS's I-CARE values system of integrity, communication, accountability, respect and energy in all relationships with customers, suppliers, fellow employees and other stakeholders.
  5. Ensure the confidentiality and full and complete safeguarding the company's trade secrets and any of our business clients' customer lists and related records.

Educational Requirements

  1. 2-4 year college degree, equivalent work experience or a demonstrated ability to successfully perform the requirements of the position.

Experience and Skills

  1. At least 2 years of experience in purchasing, project or product management, or equivalent experience.
  2. Ability to think creatively and explore outside-the-box opportunities
  3. Strong communication skills, and the ability to build consensus.
  4. Ability to lead and manage in a collaborative, peer environment.
  5. Strong project management and organizational skills.
  6. Experience and knowledge in numismatics and the coin market preferred.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  2. Ability to understand and operate ERP and related systems.
  3. Base level of understanding of coins.


  1. Ability to travel domestically and internationally when required, approximately 0-5%.
